Want Greater Harmony in Your Life ?

When you have harmony in your life, you feel that the various parts of your life are working well together. As a result, your life feels ‘in sync’ and you are satisfied with your life on the whole. And who doesn’t want that ?!

I’m guessing the answer is “YES” !  When you create harmony in your life, you feel that the various parts of your life are working well together.  As a result, your life feels ‘in sync’ and you are satisfied with your life on the whole.   And who doesn’t want that ?!

When your life is not in harmony, you feel frustrated, dissatisfied and unhappy.   Maybe it’s because you’re constantly making trade-offs between things that you want to be doing vs things that you feel you should be doing.  Or perhaps there is an important area in your life that is still unfulfilled.

Creating greater harmony starts with greater self awareness.   Our lives consists of many different parts that compete for our time and attention everyday.  It’s important to be aware of which of these areas matter most to you, and importantly ‘why’.  This enables you to live by intention as your day-to-day decisions and actions are guided by a clear understanding of the life you want to have.

Knowing what truly matters to you will help you focus on which areas that are most important for you to bring into harmony.  These are the areas that drive your overall satisfaction with your life.  If you are satisfied with these areas, your life has meaning and you are happy.

Here is what you can do to start creating greater harmony in your life –

Be aware of what truly matters to you.

Is it your family, or your career …or having enough time for yourself ?  There is no right or wrong answer.  Only what’s ‘right’ for you.  One way to figure this out is to observe your life as it is today.  As you go about your daily routine for the next two weeks, observe when you are happiest and most contented.   These are also most likely the times when you feel most true to yourself.  The times when you feel you are at your best with little effort.  Look for the clues and be honest with yourself.

Figure out how you can de-prioritize, delegate, or move away from the things (or people) that drain you.

All of us have things that we don’t want to do.  Some of these are mere annoyances but some things we do lacks meaning and as a result, drains us.   Figure out how you can spend less time on this by delegating or even doing away with these aspects of your life and work if you can.  If your job is draining you because it lacks meaning and is no longer satisfying, then ask yourself why you continue to stay with it instead of looking for a new one …. or charting a different career path that is more meaningful.

Imagine what you really want your life to look like

If you had no hindrances at all, what do you really want your life to be ?   I don’t mean the visions of “sitting  on the beach everyday doing nothing” dream ….as trust me, you’d be bored stiff after a month !  I mean imagining the things you’d like to be doing, people you’d like to be with, places where you’d like to be living and working in every day for the rest of your life.  Do you have a clear picture what that life would look like ?  It’s hard to develop a plan for your life’s journey if you don’t have a clear sense of your destination.

It’s not easy to achieve greater harmony in our lives but it is possible.  It starts with greater clarity as to what’s most important and a vision of the life we want.  It involves making some tough decisions on what goals to go after, and what to forego.  Then importantly, putting a plan into action to achieve it.
