Our recent “Spring Forward Your Week” inspirational poster was about never giving up on yourself – about finding the courage within to believe in yourself when the going gets tough.  We all have the courage within us.  Yet, each of us has to find our own way of harnessing and drawing on that inner well when needed to conquer our fears.

Attached is an article by Dr Greenberg, an expert on positive psychology which lists 6 different ways we define courage.

The 6 definitions of courage are –

  1. Feeling fear yet choosing to act
  2. Following your heart
  3. Persevering in the face of adversity
  4. Standing up for what’s right
  5. Expanding your horizons – letting go of the familiar
  6. Facing suffering with dignity or faith

She has also included a courage-building exercise which through a series of questions, we can identify previous moments in our life where we have demonstrated each of the above definitions of courage.  The purpose being to draw out insights that we can tap into to evoke that same courage when needed in the future.  Worth doing.

Here is the link to Dr Greenberg’s article – The Six Attributes of Courage.

I would also be interested in hearing your personal definition of courage; and how it has helped you conquer your fears.
