Wealth vs. Abundance

Wealth is being in that place where you feel completely content in your life, want for nothing, and are no longer trying to be someone you ain’t. True wealth extends beyond having all the knowledge, tools, strategies, and get-rich programs. It’s about being satisfied that every day you have done your best, you have loved your hardest, and you can sleep soundly in the comfort of what you have created in this life.

Wealth vs. Abundance

For some time I have been attending self-development workshops and listening to mindset millionaires, etc., and the common theme of attracting abundance in your life!  Now I do believe in the law of attraction and that if you want something in life, you need to ask for it, and ask everyone because someone somewhere will deliver!  As lovely as this is, I have to be somewhat sceptical at the idea that there is an abundance shoe, a one-size-fits-all approach.

So let’s break it down further. What is abundance to you?

Coming from South Africa, I have seen firsthand a degree of happiness in poverty-stricken adults’ faces than in many of my first-world country counterparts. I’m not sure they would even understand the definition of abundance. However, their faces and smiles, laughter, and community spirit can fill a room with joy second to none.  So from this I have deduced that money does not bring happiness; giving back can bring a certain level of satisfaction and pride, but true wealth, what’s that about?

Personally I feel that wealth is being in that place where you feel completely content in your life, want for nothing, and are no longer trying to be someone you ain’t.  True wealth is knowing when to argue with someone, or when to smile politely/knowingly and walk away. True wealth extends beyond having all the knowledge, tools, strategies, and get-rich programs.  It’s about being able to be still, quiet, graceful, and satisfied that every day you have done your best, you have loved your hardest, and you can sleep soundly in the comfort of what you have created in this so-called hectic life!  Peace and calm amongst the storm?  It’s dancing when no one is watching and stretching yourself out of your comfort zone continually.  And yet, how many of us have reached this point?  Not I, but certainly continually striving for the impossible rather than being at peace with the place we are at brings a big African smile to my face.  Ubuntu (human kindness).  Try it and live by it and see the world smile upon you.
